Weekly Preview December 12-16

Thank you Ahna's Angels for being such a BLESSING!

A huge thank you for getting out in the cold and bringing your children to sing.  They did an awesome job.  I know they blessed the hearts of everyone who heard them.  These are amazing children!  They make me smile!!

Thank you for allowing your child to participate in the fundraiser to benefit the Wiphan Organization in Zambia.  The students were adorable and excitement was in the air!!

We are experiencing all varieties of technology in first grade!  After using the ipads last week, we have been exposed to the ipods this week.  The students are loving it!  We used both of them during small group time to reinforce our "long o" reading skill this week.

Pretty cool, uhh???

Most of the students are doing a fabulous job with counting money. We will continue using pennies, nickels, and dimes until after Christmas.  Then, we will be adding quarters.  Hopefully, this will come easy for the children since we talk about money daily in our Math Calendar Notebook.  Continue to practice counting change with these combinations. Thank you for your help at home.

Here is a look at next week:
Reading - long u (oo, ew, ui, ou, ue)
Language - Nouns and Verbs

Weekly Preview December 5-9

     Look at your SMART babies!!

We had an awesome time working on the ipads this week.  You would have thought that Santa made his delivery early.  The students had a ball and absolutely loved practicing handwriting on the ipads and playing math games.

In the midst of a full academic week, we enjoyed Christmas performances by the band and performing arts.  The students loved watching the older students perform.  This opened the door for a perfect discussion about the many wonderful talents and gifts that God has blessed us with and using those talents to glorify Him!!

I am looking forward to hearing Ahna's Angels sing next Thursday, December 8, at Jackson Hospital.  Mrs. Ahna will be sending more details concerning time and drop off location.  Thank you for allowing your angel to participate. I know they will be a blessing!!

Our Christmas party is Thursday, December 15, from 2:00-3:00.  Plans and preparations are being made.  Students will be dismissed at 11:30 on Friday, December 16.

We will be closing our grading period for the second nine weeks on December 9.  All grades taken after next week will count on the third nine weeks.

Please check with your child concerning supplies.  Many students are in need of pencils (the plain, yellow, number 2 pencils are the best), erasers, and glue.

I have talked with all students regarding their AR points.  The students are doing a good job.  If your child does not have   15 points, I am encouraging him/her to get busy!!  Students should be taking one to two tests per week.  Please continue to read to, with, and beside your child as often as possible.  I am seeing great strides in reading and appreciate your continued support.

Here is a look at next week:

Reading - long o (oa,oe,o,ow) ABC order
Math - counting money...Please check the blog for fun on-line games.  Please review nightly.  We will work on pennies, nickels, and dimes for the next couple of weeks.  We will add quarters after Christmas break.

Science - heat, light, sound
Bible - Jesus Is Born    Memory Verse - Luke 2:11

Have a blessed weekend!
