Pirate Week: Rock Your School

I love it when the kids are super excited about learning.  There was a lot of excitement in our class this week.  We are focusing on the sound of /ar/.   We had a room transformation into a pirate ship and lots of fun pirate centers for the young Mateys!  You should have seen their eyes when they entered the room on Monday!

First, they met our class visitor Captain Sm-ARR-ty!  He needed us all to become pirates for the day and help him find his lost words!  The students sorted /ar/ words, collected gold (/ar/ words) for the treasure chest, and even walked the plank after reading /ar/ words.  The students had to find rhyming words, the correct spelling for words, fill in missing sounds, count the sounds, and lots more!  And, at last our ship ported and we found our treasures!

Centers, Writing, and Learning

I am so proud of these first graders!  First grade may look a little different this year but these rock stars are  giving it their ALL!  I absolutely love this time of the year when we begin to see the fruit of the harvest.  The students are becoming writers, learning responsibility, thriving in math, and blooming so well.

The students just completed their tooth stories and did a fabulous job.  We are studying measurement in math and enjoying measuring with nonstandard measurement.

101 Days of School

We celebrated 101 days of school in a LARGE way.  Students created their 101 dotted shirts and enjoyed a fun-filled day of 101 activities including writing 101 words, 101 rolls with dice, and 101 math activities.  We finished the day with a special puppy chow mix.

Thanksgiving Feast

We were so blessed to have our Thanksgiving Feast outside.  The students spent the week studying about the Native Americans.  Some of the topics were the First Thanksgiving, daily life for the Pilgrims and Wampanoags, and the voyage on the Mayflower.
