50 Day of School

We had a great time celebrating fifty days of school in a big way!  The students came to school dressed in their 50th day attire and rocked -n- rolled the day away. We used venn diagrams to compare and contrast life in the past and now, listened to oldies but goodies on the record player, and made a recipe book for our yummy coke floats.  Students experienced games from the past such as hopscotch, jacks, and hula hooping.  We enjoyed literacy stations with ABC order, double facts, odd and even, and rolling our way to 50.  The students wrote about children of the fifties and children today.  We even had a "fifty second" contest of bubble blowing, counting, and bunny hopping.  I hope the 50th day of first grade will rock your socks off, too.

Homecoming Week and Angel Choir at Holiday Market

We had an exciting week with homecoming activities and an Angel Choir performance at the Holiday Market.  We were honored to have the opportunity to be a blessing to others as we sang at the Holiday Market. The students did a fabulous job at their first performance.  Thank you for being there to support the Angel Choir.  I hope that you enjoy some pictures from our exciting week.

Johnny Appleseed Day

Johnny Appleseed Day

We had a great day celebrating Johnny Appleseed's birthday.  Thank you to Mrs. Waters and
Mrs. McClelland for helping us prepare our applesauce that was a hit!
These students LOVE non-fiction stories. We started our day of apples with a KWL chart.  After reading  few non-fiction books about apples, the students filled out their own KWL charts.  Then, we created an apple book showing the stages of the apple tree and labeling an apple.  We had apple themed math and literacy rotations.  At the end of the day, we celebrated Johnny Appleseed Day with our special applesauce snack.  We cooked it in the crockpot in our classroom and it smelled like FALL all day.  The students said it was the "best applesauce EVER!'  Each student took a recipe home to their parents.  It was a FUN, apple filled day in First Grade!
