We were so blessed to have the most beautiful day to celebrate the first grade feast.  Many parents volunteered their time and efforts to help make our feast remarkable.  Thank you to everyone that helped make the day a success.  The students had the best time and looked marvelous.  We are blessed!

50th Day of School

We had a blast on the 50th Day of School!  Students were dressed in their "fifty attire" and rocked & rolled all day.  They enjoyed studying about the lifestyles of the fifties compared to today.  Students completed a compare/contrast venn diagram, wrote about the differences in kids today and in the fifties, and created fifties' artwork. Students were engaged in literacy center games with ABC order, number sense to 50, less than/greater than 50, and double facts.

At the end of the day we had a 50 second challenge.  Check out the super star hoola hupers and bubble blowers.  We ended our day with a homemade Coke float and recipe to try at home.  Please click here to view our pictures:  https://photos.app.goo.gl/KaPWKCyoSSiVYMmU8

Pirate Week: Rock Your School

I love it when the kids are super excited about learning.  There was a lot of excitement in our class this week.  We are focusing on the sound of /ar/.   We had a room transformation into a pirate ship and lots of fun pirate centers for the young Mateys!  You should have seen their eyes when they entered the room on Monday!

First, they met our class visitor Captain Sm-ARR-ty!  He needed us all to become pirates for the day and help him find his lost words!  The students sorted /ar/ words, collected gold (/ar/ words) for the treasure chest, and even walked the plank after reading /ar/ words.  The students had to find rhyming words, the correct spelling for words, fill in missing sounds, count the sounds, and lots more!  And, at last our ship ported and we found our treasures!

Centers, Writing, and Learning

I am so proud of these first graders!  First grade may look a little different this year but these rock stars are  giving it their ALL!  I absolutely love this time of the year when we begin to see the fruit of the harvest.  The students are becoming writers, learning responsibility, thriving in math, and blooming so well.

The students just completed their tooth stories and did a fabulous job.  We are studying measurement in math and enjoying measuring with nonstandard measurement.
