Happy Birthday Johnny Appleseed!

We celebrated Johnny Appleseed's birthday in a BIG way.  First, we did a little research on apples.  Then, we filled out our apple charts.  We learned some interesting facts about apples.  Students played apple math games and did a little "Apple Of My Eye" writing.  The classroom was filled with the sweet aroma of fall as applesauce cooked all day in our crock pot.  The students enjoyed homemade applesauce at the end of the day.  Yummy!
Short u - Bubble Gum Time!

We had a great time with our bubble gum blowing!!  After spending some time chewing our gum we only had four students that could blow bubbles!!  We used our graph to solve some math word problems.  Then, we used our balloon bubbles to create stories explaining how to blow a bubble.  We had a blast!

Fun in First!

Last week was full of exciting learning.  As a conclusion of short vowel e, we read the book
A Nest Full of Eggs.  Then, we did a little cooking with edible eggs.  They were a hit!

Also, students were thrilled to see a fresh snake shed skin.  We were amazed that the skin was in a single piece and how fragile the shed skin appeared.  We had a chance to learn the process of moulting in snakes.  It was fabulous!

The students are doing a great job with their Calendar Notebooks.  Each day students complete the
digital date, day, month, year, tally marks, before and after number, ten less, ten more, and place value.    Many great things are going on in room 110.
