Daddy Field Trip

We were blessed with a beautiful day for the Daddy Field Trip.  We wrapped up our animal unit in class by preparing Animal Reports.  The students chose an animal to research and prepared a report using pebblego on the computers.  The students shared their reports with their dads before departing for the zoo.  The students enjoyed spending time with their dads and completing an Animal Scavenger Hunt.  Students got to have lunch in the room when we returned.  It was a great morning!

We had a grand day celebrating Johnny Appleseed's birthday.  We read books, made a KWL grahic organizer, learned about apples trees, stars in apples, and many other fun activities.  The applesauce was a hit and we loved the fresh smell of apples cooking all day in our class.  Thank you to the sweet moms who helped prepare the apples.  It's great to be a FIRSTIE!!

Picture Day and Science Lab Fun

Just take a look at these beauties as they showed their big smiles on Picture Day.  They were decked out from head to toe.  Smile for the camera!

Also, enjoy pictures from our first visit to the Science Lab.  These little scientists were busy observing and collecting data.  The new vocabulary term for the day...buoyancy.  The students were amazed at the dancing raisin.  First grade learning is always exciting with these eager students.

We had a fabulous week in first grade.  We read the book Olivia's Lemonade Stand.  We enjoyed many skill building activities including antonyms, synonyms, ABC order, compound words, and "interesting word usage".  We wrapped up the week by encouraging TPS students to help donate money to Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation which helps support research to fight childhood cancer.   The lower school students did a great job and had one of the biggest C4C donations.  The excitement, zeal, and enthusiasm for this project was contagious!  The first grade students enjoyed the opportunity to help serve others.  I am so proud of them.

We completed the week off with "Lemonade Peeps" and lemonade.  It was an awesome week!
